When the UK’s only all-female sailing school wanted to make a splash with publicity at this year’s Cowes Week, we were on hand to part the waves.

With the Americas Cup racing over in the UK and Cowes Week and the Fastnet Ocean Race looming, the team wanted to make sure that their message was heard over all the media buzz surrounding this huge international fixture as well as the usual interest around the Isle of Wight in August.

To begin with, we worked with Sian Lewis to position the team outside of their geographical area and secured coverage across London with a travel feature in The London Evening Standard. With a readership of around two million in print and online every evening the team were thrilled with the coverage.

And to attract interest during Cowes Week, we advised the team to host an Open Day and Official Opening of their new office to coincide with the start of the most prestigious regatta in the annual calendar.

We suggested that a prominent female sailor be on hand to answer questions and provide insight into what it means to be a woman sailor at the top of her game. Round the World yachtswoman Vicky Ellis more than fitted the bill and cut the ribbon to welcome a new chapter for the Cowes-based sailing school.

And whisper it .. we even provided the pink ribbon to be cut on the day! How’s that for attention to detail for our clients?

As well as local press and online coverage we secured a live interview on BBC Radio Solent’s Katie Martin afternoon show to promote the official opening and the ethos behind Girls For Sail.

Myrid Ramsay, Managing Partner, of cobaltink communcations, said: “We love working with the team to achieve their aims and provide them with fresh ideas and approaches to maximise interest in what is a unique sailing opportunity in the UK.

“But we have also worked with media in the Caribbean to ensure that wherever the team is in the world we are on hand to make sure that as many people as possible know they’ve arrived.”
