The sailing midwife Ali takes centre stage for her Fastnet campaign thanks to us

August 27, 2015admin-ci

photo_3We love promoting sport. And sportsmen and women. That’s why we work with Scottish Women in Sport and why we were thrilled to put women’s sailing on the map for this year’s Fastnet Ocean Race.

Midwife Ali Millman had already completed two Fastnet campaigns when she decided she would tackle her third.

But this time she wanted to do try an all-girl crew as she tackled one of the world’s most prestigious ocean races.

Ali’s Fastnet first outing was with a few of nine men, the second with more of a mixed crew. But for her 2015 campaign it had to be an all-girl affair.

And the verdict? Well you can hear her views on how an all-girl crew mastered the Fastnet in her interview with BBC Radio Solent’s Katie Martin by clicking on the link here:

Ali said afterwards: “Doing the Fastnet with a female crew was fantastic. We bonded and worked so well together. I really couldn’t have asked for better crew mates for the race.

“Everyone worked well and everyone had a chance to work in each position on the boat. Normally the heavy work is handled by the men onboard but when there are no male crew that changes everything.

“And I must say I loved it. I’d recommend the experience wholeheartedly.”
